As a captain, this is one of my favorite times of year—big numbers of walleye are stacked up and feeding, and the action can be nonstop. We’ll be vertical jigging in the current, targeting trophy fish as they move through one of the best walleye fisheries in the country. Late fall is trophy time, for giant walleye on White Lake and Muskegon Lake in November and December is as good as it gets. From a captain’s perspective, this is when we target the biggest fish of the year—true trophies feeding hard before winter. Depending on conditions, we’ll either be trolling to cover water and locate active fish or casting to dial in on specific areas where big walleye are holding. It’s a more focused, serious style of fishing, but the payoff can be huge. If you’re looking for a real shot at a personal-best walleye, this is the trip you don’t want to miss.
